Introductions

Lance’s parents, henceforth referred to as Granmom and Grandad, finally got to meet their beautiful grandson! In related news, the aforementioned happy grandparents are now Austin residents and we’re all amazed at the Lord’s grace. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration at Kristin’s parents, henceforth referred to as Amma and Papa, and are looking forward to eating turkey sandwiches and putting up Christmas decorations. Yay!!!

Larry and Lea Visit Austin

We were absolutely delighted to have Lance’s parents, Larry and Lea, stay with us for two weeks in September. We really enjoyed showing them some of our favorite places in Austin. They did some house hunting while they were here. Mostly, though, we just hung out and visited and cooked and ate. It was a wonderful time and we hope to see them again real soon!

The above photo was taken at Trattoria Lisina at the Mandola Estate Winery. It’s like a little piece of Italy nestled in the Texas Hill Country. Since our climate is similar to Southern Italy and Sicily, they’re able to grow such vines as Montepulciano, Moscato, Barbera, and Sangiovese. Awesome!

Couples Baby Shower

Everyone seemed to have a great time at our Couples Baby Shower. Here’s a great photo of Mike and Jen’s daughter Lilly checking out Kristin’s mysterious belly bulge. Thanks to all of our friends for celebrating with us. And special thanks to Jeff for cooking up so many wonderful culinary treats!

Kristin is 33 weeks along, so we have less than two months before our due date. We’ve been working hard to get everything ready for Benjamin’s much anticipated arrival. We hope to be ready by October 1st just in case he decides to come a little early. Benjamin is about four pounds now and gaining about half a pound every week.

Lance’s parents, Larry and Lea, will be visiting soon and staying with us for a few weeks. While they’re here, we’ll be looking seriously at the possibility of them moving to Austin. We’re looking forward to their visit and will be sure to make a few blog posts while they’re here. Please pray for their safe travel and that the Lord will lead us through our many planned adventures in Austin.

Greenbelt Cuteness

We thought we had one fawn behind our house… Turns out we have two!

Angel Eye

Angel had a tumor removed from her right eyelid today. Her first surgery. She’s a solid eight years old now and on “suspect” arthritis medication. She is doing well, and as I write this, sleeping half on the living room carpet and half off — her second favorite spot after the master bedroom closet, her perfect little hideaway. Sutures will be removed in 10 days. Ruff.

ITMERC

Our favorite technology mercenary zoomed through town this last weekend and our house seemed to appreciate in value for a few short days…

Our own little corner of the world…

This is the view from our back porch. Nice, eh? Purple flowers. Red and yellow flowers. Trees with yellow thingies. Am I impressing you with my knowledge of botany? We have deer, too, and a baby fawn-thing. We’ll try to get a good picture of the baby as soon as he/she cooperates.

100 Hour Photo Stream

I’ll be sending photos from my phone to Flickr over the next 100 hours as we go to our final walkthrough, finish packing, go to closing, move in, unpack, receive deliveries and get settled. This should be fun! We hope you enjoy the snapshots of our journey as much as we (God willing) enjoy the journey itself! Stay tuned in!

I’ll take a guitar over a pig anyday…

Austin Gibson at Night, originally uploaded by ghargreaves.

When I lived in Cincinnati, we had pig statues scattered around downtown to commemorate some historical relationship the city had with Porky. When I lived in Chicago during the summer of ‘93, there were cows everywhere. Now Austin is doing the same thing with guitars and I gotta say… it’s sitting with me a heck of a lot better than my previous midwest experiences.

The official page for Guitartown is on Gibson’s website, but it’s a bit more fun to flip through all the photos people have published on Flickr.
